Amor en Accion

Love in Action is a food and clothing distribution program with a referral component to other community service providers. Its coordinator and volunteers collect and distribute donated food and clothing to families with scarce economic resources in various Miami-Dade communities, particularly in the City of Homestead. This is an ongoing project that has benefited farm workers, immigrant workers, low-income families and homeless.

This year, the Love in Action program has collected and distributed perishable and non-perishable food donations from various food merchants in the area with a value of more than $50,000 dollars. Additional non-profit organizations in the Miami-Dade County area have also benefited from our food distribution, such as: Open House Ministries, New Hope Ministries, Camillus House, Ministerio El Rey Jesus, Ministerio Jovenes en Accion, and several groups in Pembroke Pines, Hialeah, Miami Beach, Doral and Homestead.

With the cooperation of various volunteer workers, the program coordinator operates a food storage area, coordinates a food delivery service and provides donated clothing items. The program also utilizes a van to collect and distribute the food among the various delivery points.

Love in Action not only addresses the immediate needs for food and clothing, but also assists with other aspects of wellness by providing community services information and referrals. The program provides referrals to rehabilitation and shelter services such as: Camillus House, the Homeless Assistance Center and the Dunklin Memorial Camp. It also offers referrals to women’s counseling services (“Entre Nosotras” Foundation) and medical services at the Naranja Health Care Clinic. In collaborating with these community service providers, the Love in Action program not only benefits directly the individuals and families that serves, but also impacts our community in positive ways by taking steps against the effects of poverty, addictions, homelessness and malnutrition in the Miami-Dade County area.
